Last year, two Hawai‘i Girl Scouts, Cristin Lim and Jelene Wong (both ‘Iolani School students) were thinking about a meaningful community project that they could do for their Girl Scout Gold Award project that would help the environment.

Inspired by the monkeypod  on the grounds of the Girl Scouts of Hawai‘i headquarters in Nu‘uanu, which is distinguished as an “Exceptional Tree,” the girls reached out to Mary Steiner at Outdoor Circle and worked with Steiner to develop a walking tour of Exceptional Trees in downtown Honolulu and Waikīkī. Just recently completed, the brochures are currently available at more than 20 locations around town including the Honolulu Zoo, Foster Botanical Gardens, ‘Iolani Palace, Outdoor Circle and several Waikīkī hotels.
