The National Weather Service has extended a red flag warning for Leeward areas of the Hawaiian Islands.

The red flag warning is now in effect until 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Forecasters say a high pressure system building north of the state will bring increasing trade winds.

A relatively dry and stable air mass will accompany the strong trades, increasing the potential for critical fire weather conditions especially in the afternoon.
