'Tis the season to buy local.

That's the message from Hawaii farmers to downtown Honolulu workers.

Farmers set up displays at bishop square today to remind consumers to think local when shopping for holiday gifts and decorations.

Gift baskets, and christmas wreaths can all be made here using local products.

"Tropical flowers, poinsettias that are grown here, we have all of the fruits and vegetables that can also be put together in baskets and we can put them all together and use them during the holidays," said Susan Matsushima, Alluvion Plant Nursery.

The "buy local for the holidays" campaign also encourages sending locally grown fruits to friends and family on the mainland.

Apple bananas can now be sent through a company called ohana banana.
