Hawaii's future got a taste of Hawaii's past Friday.

More than 100 students got the chance to tour the Hokule'a at Honolulu Community College's Marine Education and Training Center and Sand Island Parkway.

HCC and the Polynesian Voyaging Society partnered up for the Ocean Hawaii Marine Exploration Day event - in celebration of the college's 90th anniverary.

"We live on an island, we're surrounded by water. Most kids just are drawn to the water and ocean activities so this is really for them to learn more about our host culture, about Hawaiian navigation and how important it is," said Billie Takaki Lueder with the Honolulu Community College.

HCC is expected to train more than 2,000 people in preparation for the 2012 Worldwide Voyages of the Hokule'a led by master navigator Nainoa Thompson.
