The state dedicated a new $2.5 million dock at Keehi Small Boat Harbor Wednesday.

The new Pier 100 was built as part of the state's Recreation Renaissance.

The old pier was badly deteriorated and had to be demolished in April of last year.

Harbor improvements have also been made at Ala Wai, Haleiwa and Waianae.

The state says there is much more work to be done.

"Look at our state's parks and recreational spaces compared to any place else they travel in this country, the embarrassment will start to wear on them after a while. And as legislators, they will have to answer to the public why did you let it go on so long," said Governor Linda Lingle.

The new dock was made using corrosion-resistant materials.

Two other docks are also being replaced, with work scheduled to be completed sometime next year.

In truth Linda Lingle and Laura Thielen had almost nothing to do with the new docks. The process to replace the docks started many years ago and could not have proceeded without Sen. Chun-Oakland's support. The job was done despite former DLNR chair Peter Young siphoning money away from boating. The project was already well under way by the time Laura Thielen became chair.
