A former employee with the state Department of Land and Natural Resources is under investigation by the attorney general.

According to a source within the Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation, the employee is suspected of stealing money from boating funds.

The source says the employee recently resigned and employees are being subpoenaed to testify on the case.

No arrests have been made.

KHON2 was alerted to the investigation by Envirowatch's Carroll Cox.

The DLNR says it is cooperating with the investigation.

Statement from the Department of Natural Resources:

"The Department of Land and Natural Resources is cooperating with an investigation by the State Department of the Attorney General into actions by an employee in the Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation. The individual in question tendered a resignation effective March 18, 2011.  No further statements will be made by DLNR pending completion of the investigation and filing of any charges."
