During a press conference Saturday held by the Iron Workers Labor Union, Mayor Mufi Hannemann said publicly for the first time he is considering running for governor this year.

Among dozens of union workers, the mayor made it clear it was not an official announcement, but it's a position he has been considering.

"I'm not ready yet to say I am resigning from mayor to run for governor. I'm not ready to retire from mayor to run for governor, but we are moving in that direction," said Hannemann.

Hannemann did not say when he plans to make his official announcement about his political future.
