Another notable candidate has emerged for the Rainbow Warrior basketball head coaching vacancy.

Joe "Jellybean" Bryant told KHON2 today that he plans on submitting his application tomorrow.

Bryant is a former professional hoopster who played in the NBA as well as overseas.

He’s also the father of current NBA superstar Kobe Bryant.

"Jellybean's" coaching career took him all over....from an assistant at his alma mater, Lasalle University to head coach of the WNBA’s L.A. sparks.

He even coached in Japan, where one of his players with the Shiga Lakestars, was former rainbow Bobby Nash...the son of Bob Nash, who was let go as U.H. head coach earlier this week.

Joe Bryant is a frequent visitor of the islands.

He’s even assisted with the Lokahi program, which has long been affiliated with KHON2.

U.H. athletics director Jim Donovan said previously that he hopes to name a new U.H. head coach, within a few weeks.

Joe Bryant is an excellent teacher and coach. I know first hand. He did a clinic at the Manoa Gym a few years back for my son's basketball team which I was coaching at the time. My daughter attended the clinic also. She was apart of the Roosevelt girs basketball squad which lost to Punaho in the state championship a few years back. She was able to apply some of the things that she learned at the clinic with Joe Bryant to her game. He's an OUTSTANDING coach. UH can't afford not to hire him. Thanks Thomas Armstead. 554-2039
