They're not striking yet, but Hawaiian Electric employees gathered Thursday to get ready for such an event.

Hundreds of union workers gathered at Kakaako Park Thursday to get their strike assignments, telling them where to be next Tuesday.

That's when their current contract with Hawaiian Electric expires.

Union reps and HECO have been unable agree on a new contract.

Some union members say they are hopefull for an agreement rather than a strike.

"I don't think anybody would want to do that, you know everybody loses," said union employee, Danny Vierra. " I would like to see them come to an agreement tomorrow, then we just continue on and do like we always do."

Negotiations are ongoing.

A strike would impact over a thousand union workers at HECO.

Give the workers what they deserve. HECO can afford it! CEO gets paid over $2million a year and Hawaii residents just see rate increase after rate increase. Maybe if HECO didn't have such a monopoly they'd run the company more efficient.
