Complaints of confusion and wasted time ran rampant at District Court on Friday morning.

That's because Friday was the first furlough Friday for state judiciary workers and apparently not everyone got the message.

Many of them got up early and made a trek to downtown.

"Coming from Makaha, had to get up at four o'clock this morning. I arrived here at about seven and I'm just a little bit ticked off there. Now I'm wondering are they going to dismiss my case," said Jake Lucas, who showed up at court.

Jake wasn't alone, others did the same, just not as early.

"I had to miss a class, that's the good thing and the bad thing about it. You know I don't like going to class, but at the same time I misses. But I mean there is nothing you can do," said Vindhya Weerakkody, who also showed up at court.

What greeted people were locked doors and a sign listing the furlough days for the next several months.

Those who came down for nothing left wondering what to do next.

"Probably e-mail them or something like that, get another date fixed. To bad I missed a class though," said Weerakkody.

"I'm going to wait for them to call me. I'm not going to call them I was here. So, they say you must reschedule, so maybe I'll give them a call and reschedule like the correct thing to do," said Lucas.

District Court officials said anyone with court dates on the furlough days would be sent a new court date in the mail, mail some apparently didn't get.

"A lot of people took off a day of work to come down here. In my case I took off from my dialysis. So, I'm not a happy camper right now," said Lucas.

Same deal at Circuit Court, courthouse closed, but the adjacent parking lot was open.

Court will be back in session on Monday.
