A former teacher at Damien Memorial School was honored for 70 years of service as a monk.

A celebration mass was held at the school this morning to recognize Brother Patrick O'hare's life work.

Brother O'Hare became a monk at the age of 16...and later taught Math and English at Damien for more than two decades.

He's served all over the United States and in Canada...but says Hawaii has always been his favorite place.

"One day I got a lucky not saying "go to Hawaii", 40 years ago," says Brother Patrick O'Hare, Congregation of Christian Brothers.

"This is my place, yes. Where else could I swim everyday at my age?," says Brother O'Hare.

Along with swimming, the 86 year-old Monk keeps fit by snorkeling and walking everyday.
