Hawaii's economy is expected to get a much needed boost as a primetime television show kicks off production, along with a major motion picture filming here in the islands.
The highly anticipated remake of the popular police drama Hawaii Five-o is now filming.
"The original show was so successful and so well known and well loved around world that our show you know we're not trying to recreate the original, we're trying to reboot it," says Alex O'Loughlin, playing Steve McGarrett.
A fan favorite in the 60's and 70's, the new show is promising to bring the series into the 21st century with a brand new cast, updated theme song and...
"You can expect a lot of action, a lot of great comedy and a lot of character stuff and of course there's going to be crime stories each week," says O'Loughlin.
"Its seems really exciting its not just another day like in a concrete studio in Los Angeles," says Grace Park as Kono Kalakaua.
Over on Oahu's east coastline another popular destination served as a production set this time for pirates.
"Well its my 10th anniversary today and my wife thinks Johnny Depp is hot," says Chris.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides kicked off filming at "from here to eternity beach" closing halona blowhole.
Visitors and locals lined up along the street and gathered at scenic lookouts to catch a glimpse of the production.
"I think its great to have it here," says Chris.
Many agree saying film and television production in the state will bolster the economy.
"Could bring in at least $131 million dollars trickle down effect into our economy," says Georja Skinner, Hawaii film office.
"And what its doing not only for our business here on the islands in the film industry 2606 but what its going to for tourism," says Skinner.
"I am interested to see what's going to happen," says Kealoha.
Hawaii Five-o hits the small screen in September and pirates along with several other movies will continue to be filmed in the islands this summer.
