Fatal Crash in Waimanalo kills teen

A Waimanalo teenager died after his moped was hit by an SUV.

The crash happened just before two o'clock this morning on Kalanianaole Highway in Waimanalo.

Police say the moped was traveling in the shoulder lane against the flow of traffic.

An SUV that was on the same side of the road as the moped -- was making a right turn into the Waimanalo Town Center when the two collided.

The teenage boy was thrown from his moped.

He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The city medical examiner identifies him as 15-year old Junior Ilae of Waimanalo.

The driver of the SUV is identified as 47-year-old Dwayne Canon of Waimanalo.

Canon was arrested for negligent homicide, driving under the influence, and driving without a license.
