This year's election is drawing a lot of interest from both parties and today as many as three dozen more people became candidates in the nick of time.

The Office of Elections and the county clerks say about 40 people came into finalize candidacy papers before the 4:30 p.m. deadline, adding to the hundreds already on the ballot.

So far, for the primary in September there are as many as eight races where it appears incumbents may go unchallenged.

Three of those are republican incumbents who face no opponents.
