The construction of new school is underway in West Oahu.
On Thursday, state and school officials participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new 'Ewa Makai Middle School.
It will be located on Kapolei Parkway between the Barbers Point golf course and Fort Weaver Road.
West Oahu already has more than a dozen schools that serve the area.
Governor Linda Lingle says the $66 million project will employ between 400 and 500 construction workers.
The DOE hopes to open the school during the 2010-2011 school year.
