Hawaii congressman Charles Djou officially opened his campaign headquarters Monday on Ward Avenue in Kakaako.
Djou, a republican, won a special election in May to serve out the remainder of Neil Abercrombie's term in the U.S. house.
Despite being the incumbent, many political pundits consider Djou an underdog in November's general election.
"You know I've always run my campaign as being an underdog. The only way I know how to run a race is being down by two points but closing in fast and that's the way we're gonna run this race, with enormous amount of hard work built around a message of fiscal responsibility," Djou said.
Djou is expected to face democrat Colleen Hanabusa in the general election.
