A unique collaboration between two local companies could make a huge difference to homeowners when it comes to energy savings. By now, it's obvious how much homeowners can save when it comes to energy costs when they install photovoltaic systems.
"But at the same time, that doesn't do it for everybody. And so what we really need in order to grow the market are financing options. Nationally, this has been one of the most effective financing options and so we're really excited to have SunRun here and be able to partner with them with Revolusun." said Mark Duda from Revolusun.
In fact, Revolusun and Sunetric will be partnering with an outfit called SunRun which has developed a financing model for residential solar power.
Again, Mark Duda expresses, "And they said, why wouldn't this work on the residential scale and I think they looked and looked and did their due diligence and figured out, it might be a little harder to get started but it actually does work."
And works fine for homeowners who feel they can't afford the upfront cost of a complete photovoltaic system. Under an agreement with SunRun, homeowners have a couple of options.
"One of them is, just as you say, a power purchase agreement. They'll just pay a monthly payment, less than what they'll be paying the utility. SunRun will own the system, they'll maintain it, all the maintenance, all of that is SunRun's responsibility, not the homeowner's responsibility," says Mark Duda.
Or the homeowner can make an up front payment, guaranteed there will be no change in the electric bill from month to month. Naturally, there are concerns about what happens to the value of the home if the owner should decide to sell. Duda relates the story of a homeowner in just such a situation.
"He was really excited about that because he was kind of concerned," said Duda. "I just bought this system and now I'm going to leave the house, but it turned out he made money on it and in just probably eight months now."
