Neil Abercrombie also had harsh words for his democratic challenger in the governor’s race.

He says Mufi Hannemann is walking away from his responsibilities at the city level.

"I didn't pretend that I wasn't running and try to use an office like the mayor did to actually compete for another office,” said Abercrombie.  "The former mayor is leaving the city in the worst financial position of any city I can imagine."

Whichever candidate wins the democratic primary will likely face Lieutenant Governor Duke Aiona in the November general election.

Because his tenure is ending, he does not have to resign from office to run.

Maverick 31JUL2010 5:00PM You said it Hawaiian, Mufi's chu chu train is just that. We cannot afford it and now we find the city & county is 1.5 billion in debt, so now Mufi wants to take control from the State level where he will continue to bully his way until he get's his way. If you don't want higher taxes and higher cost of living in Hawaii than vote for anybody but him and if you don't beleive me...just check his record. He spent a lot of money and has nothing to show for it, so vote wisely my friends so we can have a decent life style here in paradise!
