NFL teams cash in on merchandise.
But beware of what you buy online, because you may be paying for empty promises.
Scammers are hoping to score big by luring consumers to buy NFL team jerseys online.
“They're googling Tim Tebow Tom Brady or whoever they're favorite athlete or star is this site will pop up due to the way that the website is set-up and unfortunately the consumers will go there,” said Timothy Caminos of the Hawaii Better Business Bureau.
Caminos says the online companies are selling jerseys for $40 each, a steal, compared to the normal price of $150 to $180 dollars.
“After attempting to contact the company they still either one don't get a person or two never get a response or three never get their merchandise,” said Caminos.
The Hawaii BBB has received several complaints from consumers who never got the jerseys they paid for.
“The website basically states that they can charge you whatever they want for whatever they want and some consumers are not reading all the fine print,” said Caminos.
Caminos advises consumers to check out the website before purchasing anything online.
“Look at the URL if you see something like official jersey of the Denver broncos if it doesn't look right if it's too long then you want to move away you can always go to the official NFL website and link to any of their teams from there,” said Caminos.
