Tough economic times have hit the Lokahi Giving Project resulting in fewer donations and more families in need. This year, the 18th annual lokahi statewide drive hopes to change that by bringing out the Christmas spirit in all. Tis the season for giving. " This year the number of donors is a lot smaller families because the economy is affecting them as well." But this season could be a lot brighter... " Donations are a little slower coming in this year it's not the people are not generous they are they've been tremendous and every time we've made a request whatever they are able to do they have done," said Lokahi Program Manager Meriel Collins. Last year donations to Lokahi helped 15-hundred families. " but the economy is impacting everybody we've noticed that large agencies that would normally adopt several families are adopting one smaller family," explained Collins. Right now the Lokahi warehouse is a little empty. The goal is to change that and fill it with your donations Saturday at the annual statewide drive . Most needed items are clothing, either new or gently used, toiletries, household items, and educational toys. " No donation is too small everything and anything they do tomorrow is going to help somebody for Christmas." There will be eight locations statewide where you can drop off your unwrapped gift or cash donation from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow. Island entertainers will be on stage to help get you in the Christmas spirit. At Ala Moana, the lineup includes John Cruz, Maunalua, and Manoa DNA. At Windward Mall, look for the Kahaluu Elementary Ukulele Band, Natalie Ai Kamauu and Raiatea Helm. Donations can also be dropped off at Saturday's UH game at Aloha Stadium from 1:30 to 7:30 at gates 1 through 4.
