While shoppers eagerly await bargains on the day after Thanksgiving, some people picked up deals while shopping at work.
On the 22nd floor of the Central Pacific Bank Plaza is a shop exclusively for employees. And in less time than it takes for a coffee break, some picked up some great bargains.
" I bought lots of goodies, bags, blankets, toys and some lotions, good things," said Lori Hiramatsu.
" I'm getting these two blouses and they're both five dollars," said Joann Lim.
It's their annual White Elephant Sale. Employees donate new or gently used items. Co-workers buy them at bargain prices. Proceeds go to the Lokahi Giving Project. Oh and one more thing, they get to shop on company time.
" I love it, I love it, this is really good. I think we should do more of it and looking forward to the next one, wherever it is in this building," said Hiramitsu. "I think they should do this often, this is pretty good."
It's all part of the company's effort to help Lokahi during the holidays. Employees collected donations and adopted 25 families for the holidays. Proceeds from the White Elephant Sale will be added on to the money already collected. Sale organizers say they've been touched by the Lokahi families who are just asking for basic necessities.
"One boy actually asked for a used bicycle, a used bicycle not a brand new one. So we just wanted to try to help someone that really seemed to want just clothes for their kids, bedding, a mattress," said sale organizer Tammy Furuta.
"We try to instill in our own kids about giving back to the community, so for me personally, it makes me feel as if we are doing the right thing," said sale organizer Eric Yee.
And by doing the right thing, the boss can't complain about them shopping on the clock.
