Today's Lokahi family lived on the beach before moving to a transitional homeless shelter. This single mother of three works full time and is struggling to make ends meet. Her middle child is deaf and attends the Hawaii center for the Deaf and the Blind in Honolulu. This family's only means of transportation is TheBus. This is what the family is asking for this holiday season: a dresser to put their clothes in, and a dining table. Mom would also appreciate a watch, pants for work and a better paying job. She'd also be thrilled if someone would go into their home and teach all of them sign language so they can communicate more effectively. The 12 year old son with a hearing disability would like a PS2 game or any toys for the hearing impaired. The 13 year old daughter would love a digital camera. Mom says she took a photography class and learned how to express her feelings through a lens. Her photos were posted at the gallery Walk in Chinatown. She loved her photography class but the family can not afford a camera. The four year old would love educational games. To help this family or others like this one, drop off an unwrapped gift, check or cash donation at branches of central pacific bank statewide. Starbucks is also accepting new toys and books for keiki . ..or you can drop off donations at Hawaii self storage. On Maui, our drop off sites are at Azeka Shopping Center and A-American Self Storage.
