Our annual statewide Lokahi drives are this Saturday and your support is desperately needed to turn around what has been a disappointing start to this year's holiday drive.
As Trini Kaopuiki reports, Lokahi volunteers are worried that they won't be able to fulfill the wishlists of Hawaii's struggling families .
The Lokahi warehouse in Kakaako is usually bustling this time of year with a steady flow of donations being dropped off and toys filling the shelves.
But here is what it looks like today.
"Usually our shelves are full by November 1, here it is a few days away from December 1 and our shelves are still very bare," said Mark Gray of Lokahi.
With an improving economy, Mark can't figure out why donations are so far down from last year.
But hopes that people and the aloha spirit will be out in force on Saturday to help those families who are facing financial hardship to have something to look forward to this holiday season.
The most requested items are still the basics like toilet paper, shampoo, towels, bedding, and soap.
Educational toys and sports equipment are always appreciated for the keiki and lets not forget the teenagers and the elderly.
We look forward to seeing you Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please, come on down, enjoy the free concert and make a gift or cash donation.
On Oahu, I will be at Ala Moana Center and Ron Mizutani will be at Windward Mall.
Andrew and Justin will be on Maui, Jai will be on Hawaii Island, in Hilo, and our good friend, Penny Vredenburg will be at Waimea Center.
