Everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone is given the chance to start over.
In this Lokahi report, a woman who was given a second chance, and is making the most of it.
This Lokahi story is a good example of perseverance and determination.

"Mom" has made some poor choices in her life.  Those poor choices landed her in jail and away from her five children.

While incarcerated, the kids were put in foster care. That was a wakeup call for mom.

Mom has been out of jail for four years now. She has completed a rehabilitation program, is working fulltime and is providing for her five children. Her caseworker says she "is working hard to get her life back on track."

The children are an incredible example of resiliency.   All are active in extracurricular activities so they can have positive things to do and stay focused on their goals.

The 11-year old boy is in flag football.  The 15 year old boy is in JR ROTC and boxing,   the 8 and 9 year old girls dance hula.  The 15year old boy uses his father who is in jail as an example of how NOT to be.

If you'd like to help this family, here is their wish list:

The three boys love to go to the beach and fish.  They currently share a fishing pole and tackle box.  They would be thrilled to have their own fishing gear.   The girls' love reading, writing, and drawing and can spend hours singing.  They also like to make each other's hair and play with Bratz dolls.

Mom could use some sandals for work and a purse.

Also on the wish list - rice, toilet paper, laundry detergent, utensils and pots.

Mom is grateful that she was able to get her life back on track so she could be a mother to her children.  Let's come together to help this woman who is working hard to help herself.

Remember, our statewide Lokahi drives are just over a week away on Saturday, December 3.
