As Christmas gets closer, more families are seeking help from Lokahi, like this next family.

Today's Lokahi family is a good example of how this tough economy has impacted Hawaii's working poor.

Today's family consists of a single mom and her two children, ages 6 and 8.  Dad has been in and out of jail, and has not been involved in their life or ever paid child support.

As a single Mom, she has always worked hard to support her family.  While it has never been easy and money has always been tight, it got even tighter last year when mom was laid off.

Mom was unemployed for about a year when she finally landed a full time job.  Just when she thought things were looking up, she was laid off a second time.  Currently, she's working fulltime in a temporary position.  Although she loves her job, she can't help but worry about her uncertain future.  She is all too aware that her position is temporary.

On top of all of this, the family home is being threatened with foreclosure.  She lives in constant fear of her family losing their home.

Mom is just scraping by, living paycheck to paycheck. After all the bills are paid, there's not a lot leftover for any "extras".

If you'd like to help this family, here is their wish list:

The 6-year-old girl would love anything Hello Kitty or Barbie.  The 8-year-old boy would appreciate a Mario Wii video game.  Mom is only asking for food.

Let's help this family who has faced some tough breaks this year.
