Today's Lokahi family has had more than their share of challenges. The family consists of Mom, dad, and their two sons, ages 11 and 1 ½.
Both mom and dad have diabetes.
Mom receives dialysis treatment three times per week.
During this time, Dad stays home with the baby.
Dad is insulin-dependent and has occasional seizures.
Two years ago, mom gave birth prematurely.
The newborn required heart surgery and spent his first three months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, fighting for his life.
The past year brought new challenges, when the family became unable to pay for their home and electric bill and was forced to move into a transitional shelter.
Despite these challenges, this close knit family is thankful for their many blessings.
For example, their toddler is growing stronger and is a happy baby.
Their caseworker says he brings the family a lot of much-needed joy.
If you'd like to help this ohana, here is their wish list:
The baby could use diapers, wipes and clothes.
The older boy, a 7th grader, could also use clothes or twin bed sheets. He'd also be thrilled with a Wii sports game.
Mom and dad could use cookware, food and bedding.
