This is a happy day for 5-year-old Wayne and 6-year-old Sarah. Thanks to generous donors, two carts full of gifts were delivered to their dad's room in St. Francis Hospice.
"I'm going to start crying. It's just a blessing, a really big blessing," said Glenda.
This family has had a lot to deal with the last couple of months. In October, Dad was told that he had only two to three months left to live. At just 47-years-old, dad has congestive heart failure. He has already suffered three heart attacks.
"I'm hoping he could be wrong, there's miracles that happen every day," said Glenda.
While mom remains hopeful, reality is setting in. This fulltime teacher's aide is now the sole provider for this family of four. And it's been tough.
"I try to be independent. I'm not used to asking for help but with all these things that has been given to me and with all these helpful people, it just puts a smile on my face," said Glenda.
Jeannie Villamor with Bank of Hawaii is responsible for getting a hui together to adopt this family. About 30 people helped raise cash and goods totaling $12,000. Not only did they deliver a Christmas tee to the family, they also bought the family a much needed trundle bed, clothes, food, household items and toys.
"We are so glad that we can make a difference for this particular family because when Lokahi called with their story we immediately said yes to this family. This is just one of those families that you need to help because of their situation," said Jeanie Villamor, a Lokahi donor.
And while we are all caught up in the frenzy of these final days before Christmas, hopefully this family reminds us what Christmas is really all about.
"For me, it's just the spirit and being together and enjoying one another's company, that's what I look forward to. Having family near me especially Greg, that's the best gift ever," said Glenda.
