For close to a decade a local family has reached out to help those in need during the holiday season.
The annual tradition has also become an emotional one.
It's two days before Christmas and a special delivery has arrived at Kamehameha Housing.
For the past nine years Suzie Bass along with family, friends and co-workers have hand delivered a truck load of gifts to a Lokahi family with support from DR Horton and DHI Mortgage.
Rayna Mailou is a two-time Lokahi recipient with four children of her own ,who also helps to raise four of her nieces and nephews while working part-time and going to school full-time.
"It's really rough, really rough," she says. "If wasn't for them my kids and I wouldn't have this much gifts. Even last year it was still awesome. You know I really appreciate Lokahi for helping families in need."
Seeing the family struggle especially hits home for Suzie Bass and her oldest daughter.
"Many years ago Lindsey and I went through a tough time, but I wasn't brave enough to ask for help," she says.
Suzie's daughter, now 19, was born on December 23, making their annual delivery an emotional one.
"When she turned one I didn't have money to buy the things that I wanted to and Christmas was two days later," she says.
Now that things are better for them together as a family they reach out to others who need help.
"Well we do this every year now and its kind of become a tradition and I kinda look forward to doing it cause it make me feel good that I get to do this on by birthday," Lindsay says.
"If you need help, be brave enough to ask for it because there's gonna be a lot of people who would be happy to help," Suzie says.
