Our Lokahi giving project gets help from many different places.
We found some youngsters who are truly in the "Lokahi spirit."
They came to Windward Mall's Toys R Us loaded for bear. The reason?
"This is about giving toys to little children," says Ayla Ruiz, St. Ann's model school.
But not just any little children.
"I'm here because I'm buying toys for the unfortunate," says Cecelia Holland, St. Ann's Model School.
wait - - it gets better. The youngsters have been collecting bottles and cans since last August. Now they each get to spend ten dollars on toys for Lokahi families.
"At St. Ann's model schools from ages three to 8th grade, we participate in service learning projects. Really what that is is for us to give back to the community and this is just a perfect way for 7 and 8 year olds to get comfortable with this idea of giving back," says Clarie Thompson, St. Ann's model school.
Shopping just comes natural for some people like Danae Cullen.
"Two dolls of zuzu pets. So I got a big one for a girl and I hope the girl has a younger sister so I can give her the small zuzu pet for both of them together," says Danae Cullen, St. Ann's model school.
Girls shopped for girl toys, boys shopped for boys - - when they weren't fooling around in the aisle with a remote control car. And Congrats to Toys R Us - -they kicked in an extra two bucks a toy if the kids went over their limit. And Lokahi kudos to St. Ann's.
"We're just really, really excited about this and we've been with Lokahi for many, many years and we just hope to continue the relationship with you and channel 2," says Thompson.
