A Hawaii woman is trying to provide the best life she can for her granddaughters, but she could use some help.Today's Lokahi family faces extraordinary challenges.
Amazingly, however, they have overcome even greater obstacles just to get where they are today.
Grandma is a single caregiver for her two granddaughters, ages 2 and 8.
Mom is an alcoholic and drug addict who drank heavily throughout her pregnancies.
As a result, both girls were born with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder and are developmentally challenged.
Both are behind in their speech, size, and overall growth.
The two year old has difficulty even walking and must receive physical therapy once a week.
Grandma is reeling from her own hardships as well.
Originally from Washington, she was a victim of domestic violence.
Out of fear for her safety and the safety of her granddaughters, she flew with the children to Hawaii with nothing but the clothes they were wearing.
Thanks to grandma's resourcefulness, she and her grandchildren are now living in a transitional shelter.
The 8-year old is in school and has adjusted well.
Grandma would appreciate any assistance to make the holidays a little more joyous for the girls.
If you can help, here is their wish list: The 8 year would love anything Hannah Montana or tinkerbell.
The 2 year old girl loves anything princess.
Grandma isn't asking for anything for herself but says household items would be helpful.
