HONOLULU (AP) - The state is helping employees of two soon-to-be-closed Oahu hospitals learn about unemployment benefits and other services they may take advantage of when they lose their jobs.

Officials will offer workers at Hawaii Medical Center hospitals in Ewa and Liliha information on applying for unemployment and obtaining health insurance. They're also telling workers about job training programs.

The state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations plans to offer the services during 12 sessions at the two hospitals on Wednesday and Thursday.

Department Director Dwight Takamine said in a statement Tuesday he hopes the information will help alleviate uncertainty for the employees and their families.

The department is urging workers to file for their unemployment benefits online and avoid coming into the office and standing in line.
