HONOLULU (AP) - The three major gubernatorial candidates are saying the next governor should focus more attention on improving the state's information systems and fostering partnerships with the high tech industry.
Former U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie and former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann, both Democrats, and Republican Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona spoke Wednesday before the Hawaii Venture Capital Association.
The three contenders agreed that high tech is a rising economic sector in the state.
They each promised in different ways to consistently champion high tech businesses and projects, and to improve the state's educational system so it will generate graduates able to compete in that sector.
