Jim Boersema has accepted the offer to be the governor's new communications director.
Boersema says he is the official communications director as of Sunday.
" I'm looking forward to hopefully doing something good for the people of Hawaii, the governor's office is the center of a lot of activities that impact the people of Hawaii."
Boersema is coming out of retirement to take on the position.
Previously he worked as communications director for state Senate Democrats.
He will replace Josh Levinson, one of four Abercrombie administration policy advisers to resign last week.
" I think this is a critical time for
Hawaii and the whole country and everybody knows it's a difficult time so i
f anybody can chip in and help with the work, they should and that's what I agreed to do
," he said.
