Current members of the Hawaii Board of Education are working on limited time.
This, after governor abercrombie signed a bill today to establish an appointed school board.
The governor says he intends to replace all elected board members and he must make his choices no later than April 1st.
His nominations must receive confirmation by the senate.
"I think it is an expression of the attempt to modernize our capacity to be able to respond to what is necessary for 21st century education here in Hawaii," said Governor Abercrombie.
Under the new law, the governor also gets to choose who will be the board chairperson.
The governor has eight remaining seats left to fill, as he has already appointed bank executive Don Horner to the Board of Education.
