An estimated 45 percent of Americans make one or more resolutions each year.

I had never made one, until now.

I'm turning 45 this year and for the first time in my life, blood pressure is becoming an issue, cholesterol is rising and the metabolism isn't what it used to be.

So I'm turning to my good friend Kimo Kockelman of Hardass Fitness Cross Fit Hawaii to help me kick-start my 2010 and really of better health.

"People that are used to be athletes before didn't have to worry about what they ate or the blood pressure or cholesterol age has a way of changing things and the changes that you're experiencing not uncommon probably a lot of people hundreds and thousands of people experiencing the same thing but you're taking action so that's the difference," said Kimo.

Let's get to work!

For the next 90-days, I will challenge my body and mind. Hardass Fitness is a strength and conditioning program executed at high intensity.

"Intensity is a key component of getting good fitness results and that's what we focus on," said Kockelman

Everyone here is driven. Kimo is adapting my workouts for the first week to ease me into the program.

"We allow the member to turn up the intensity dial, push themselves harder go faster. Everything is a timed work out so there's just trying to push for a higher score or a faster time," said Kockleman.

Also during the first week, no drastic changes to my diet.

"I'm allowing you to continue eating what you want you just have to log it except for three things I eliminated right off the bat and that's fast food, snack food and soft drinks," said Kockelman.

Here's the breakdown on day one. My weight is the highest its ever been at 220 pounds. Body fat at 25.8 percent, my blood pressure at 139 over 89.

"Weight loss if you're relying on your exercise program to be the main thing that's going to help you lose weight, you might be discouraged, because what it takes you an hour to do running on the road, on a treadmill or doing the exercise that we do, you can take those calories in in five minutes in two minutes in the former of a soft drink," said Kockelman. "You're going to lose the battle if you rely on exercise and eat whatever I want."

The battle has begun.

We'll have weekly updates on my progress along with information for others hoping to make healthy changes in 2010.
