Having a family member sick or even dying can be a traumatic experience.
At many medical facilities, there is a concern for the spiritual and emotional experience the patient or family might be going through.
"Especially when somebody passes away. The family is under tremendous stress and that's when they need the most help. And thank God that some of us are ready and have experienced some of those experiences and so we are able to talk to them heart to heart,” said Castle Medical Center chaplain Raul Hayasaka.
The chaplain is confident he can make the family feel better in their time of need. "But if you can explain, sit down with them and explain with them what God has in mind, you can ease their pains and their stress and make it comfortable for them,” he said.
Throughout the ages, researchers have discovered that there is nothing more important for people in dire situations than hope. That is what the chaplain says is most important when it comes to patients and their families.
"There's something greater than ourselves and so we are able to provide, we go to the authority of the lord, and the word of God, we can present that message of peace and understand that human beings have problems and the lord understands those problems and we as ministers of the gospel are able to bring this message of peace to them and be able to provide hope in the future. Hope where uncertainty dwells and people don't know what to do,” he said.
