There are things we do that are good for our bodies and things that we do that are bad. It's the job of the Castle Medical Center Wellness program to help us concentrate on the good things and eliminate the bad.
"We say that we provide inspiration and tools to build a healthy body, mind and spirit. And specifically, we have trained staff that allow people to get that expert guidance,” said Beth Davidann of the Castle Wellness Program.
Do you need help with an exercise program, diet, or smoking cessation? This may be the place to go.
"We have a trainer, a fitness trainer, a registered dietician, we have tobacco treatment specialists. And all of us work as a team both individually but in programs where those things come together that we can really help people go through behavior change,” said Davidann.
And there are hands on programs, starting with a healthy diet.
"At least once a month, we open our beautifully appointed kitchen to really demonstrate how simple it can be to and fun to eat deliciously and simply and on a budget,” said Davidann.
The emphasis at the Wellness Center is on the individual person.
"That there are certain levels of wellness for everyone. It's very individualized. So you may have a chronic disease condition...but you can still feel well by having the support that you need clinically and having the education to help you get through it,” said Dr. Patricia Avila.
Dr. Avila says the quality of life is key to wellness. "if you have a debilitating illness, there's a certain amount of quality of life that you can achieve. And you should never feel that it's impossible so we here at the Wellness Center really support those types of individuals that are in those needs."
