The Hawaii Carpenters Union, Local 745, announced Wednesday its endorsement of Congresswoman Mazie Hirono to the U.S. Senate in the election to replace Senator Daniel Akaka next year.
"There is really no other candidate for us than Mazie," says Ron Taketa, Financial Secretary & Business Representative of the union. "Her ideals and concern for the issues that most affect not just our union members, but working people throughout the state, promise the kind of progressive service and cooperation that Hawaii has greatly benefitted from through the years with Senator Akaka on Capitol Hill."
Hirono is facing former congressman Ed Case in the Democratic primary. Former Governor Linda Lingle and former state lawmaker John Carroll will be competing in the Republican primary.
The primary election will be held in August of next year.
