Governor-elect Neil Abercrombie spent part of his day delivering on a promise made to our Kanoa Leahey earlier this summer. He says it was about honoring relationships, something he's based his campaign on from day one.
"It's the governor, how are you sir!"
Neil Abercrombie told Kanoa Leahey that he'd appear on the "Leahey and Leahey" show on PBS Hawaii the day after the general election -- win or lose. He arrived a winner.
"Jim Leahey is one of my oldest and dearest friends, a friendship I treasure and so the opportunity to be on program with Kanoa and Jim was something I simply couldn't resist," said Abercrombie.
It was one of only a few stops after a night of celebration.
"I felt joyful today because I asked for the opportunity and I'm confident that we can deliver on it."
Abercrombie was ecstatic about his convincing win over Duke Aiona. In fact, the Associated Press called the race shortly after the first-print out setting off a vocal explosion. By the second print-out, all that was left was a victory speech.
"We are family to one another, we have faith in each other, we have hope in the future we trust one another with the aloha spirit imua Hawaii! Mahalo nui !" said Abercrombie while addressing supporters at the old Comp USA building on Ala Moana Blvd.
The 72 year-old Abercrombie is eager to get to work.
"I'm energized I'm uplifted I'm ready to go, I really do want to see the change come and be a vehicle for it a catalyst," he said. "When the numbers started to climb it was clear to me anyway that people were saying to me people were saying to me eh we're counting on you to deliver now. I figure I've got about another six or seven hours before people start yelling at me."
Abercrombie will lay out his plans for the future in the coming days. He's scheduled to be sworn into office on December 6.
