You could say every election is an uphill battle to the finish line...that wasn't any more evident than when the trolley carrying the democratic candidates for senate, congress and governor had an unexpected delay.
"Hey, technical difficulties, we're used to that," laughed Colleen Hanabusa, (D) Candidate for Congress.
Their trolley stalled and wouldn't move, so the candidates did...lining University Avenue, for an impromptu sign waving, making the most of the minor mishap.
"By stopping here we've met more people going up the street," said Sen. Daniel Inouye, (D) Candidate for Senate.
The Democratic party was also joined by support from Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs Tammy Duckworth.
"It's great because that's what tells you what defines Democrats, we have the ability to pull together," said Hanabusa.
"We're here to embrace chance and get rid of the status quo the party of change, party of hope, party of moving forward is the democratic party," said Neil Abercrombie, (D) Candidate for Governor
The momentum carried the candidates to Manoa Market Place but without their trolley.
"As you can see the trolley being here or there doesn't make a difference folks are here to support the party and candidates," Vernadette Gonzalez, Manoa resident and Democratic Party supporter.
The candidates say it's the way they like to campaign - grassroots - person to person. And soon enough a new trolley had arrived.
The candidates packed on board, and set off on the rest of their trolley tour. Finishing the day with a huge rally in Pearl City, using what happened earlier in the day to prove a point
"But you know what we did, we figured out a way to get over that hump," says Brian Schatz, (D) Candidate for Lt. Governor.
