The nation's most senior member of the U.S. Senate has won another term.

Democrat Daniel K. Inouye is celebrating tonight after defeating Republican candidate Cam Cavasso and winning his 9th term Tuesday night.

The 86-year-old Democrat is chairman of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee.

Inouye is also president pro tempore of the Senate, which means he is third in line for the presidency.
