Our emphasis for seniors tonight is on kidneys and related diseases. But the fact is - as your doctor will tell you - everything is connected.
"The heart, the kidneys, all of the organs function together so we're constantly looking for partners to assist so that we can spread the message - to get out, get screened, make sure you're healthy, take care of your kidneys, take care of yourself," said Diana Pinard of the National Kidney Foundation.
With that in mind, what are the important things to remember when it comes to our health?
"One of the most important things is to make sure that you know that your blood pressure is controlled. This month is world health and specifically with regards to hypertension. Blood pressure - or hypertension -is what we call a silent killer," said Dr. Joana Magno.
That in itself makes it important to keep track of your blood pressure. But what would be described as the proper blood pressure - does it depend on the individual?
"The absolute cutoff in terms of what's normal and not normal is 140 over 90. But if you have diseases such as diabetes, it's more important to make sure your blood pressure is lower than that," said Dr. Magno.
The May 10th concert is free to the public.
There will be a silent auction ahead of that to raise awareness and funds to continue the donor program throughout the state.
"We want people to be aware of this because people need kidneys, people need hearts, pancreas. One donor can help up to 33 people, I believe," said Pinard.
