The "Good Life Expo" at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall this weekend is designed to provide information for everyone, but especially seniors looking to improve their lives. Acupuncturist Dr. Wai Low will be one of the exhibitors at this weekend's Good Life Expo.
"Acupuncture is very good for pain relief and improve circulation, improve range of motion so there are some cases where the combination of both medicines will really help the person,” said Dr. Wai Low.
Dr. Low is talking about the combination of eastern and western medicines. It is not uncommon here in Hawaii for those medical practices to be used in concert.
"Senior citizens who come here usually have pain, arthritis and also have insomnia. Sometimes their doctor gives them the western medicine and they have a lot of side effects,” said Dr. Low.
How does acupuncture work? Dr. Low describes it this way - the body has energy or chi flowing through it, but sometimes there are points where that energy flow is obstructed.
"The needles go inside and kind of like adjust that movement of chi so there's a lot of points along the way if you look at the acupuncture so each point acts like a pumping station. Along the way, that pumping station is not working,” said Dr. Low.
Dr. Low and many more exhibitors will be on hand this weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 4:30 p.m.
"After 4:30 as you know is nap time so we all stop at about that hour and the building is full. We have nearly 300 booths with a very wide variety of content, health and wellness probably being the main element of our theme,” said Dr. Low.
Once again, the Good Life Expo runs Friday through Sunday at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall.
