If there is a senior in your household who needs some help during the daytime, Castle Medical Center may have the answer.
Castle's Home Care and Community care program could be the answer for families facing the problem of a senior being home alone.
"Many times it involves one member of the family that's unable to care for themselves and sometimes, they don't have family so there are benefits through Medicare, Medicaid whereby patients can receive skilled care in the home,” said Linda Ford of Castle Medical Center.
And that is one of the key features of the Castle program - providing assistance in the home.
It is one of the key features of elder care we have talked about often -- having the resources to age in place.
"Someone to just be there, as a companion to help them remain safe but there is no need for skilled services from a therapist or a nurse,” said Ford.
Seniors living by themselves can take advantage of the service but community care can also benefit family members as well.
"The community care side is doing extremely well because those family members do need some time away, do need some respite and our caregivers can come in and play cards with them, watch TV with them, take them places,” said Ford.
Community care workers are bonded and licensed so families don't have to worry about that. The workers duties could vary from assisting with personal hygiene to just chatting.
