The University of Hawaii’s Community Colleges will receive $24,653,118 to partner with local businesses to create and continue workforce development programs designed to create jobs for the agriculture, energy and healthcare industries in Hawaii.
The announcement was made by Senator Daniel K. Inouye, Senator Daniel K. Akaka, Congresswoman Mazie Hirono and Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa.
The money for Hawaii is provided by a grant from the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) initiative.
The federal funds are part of $500 million in grants to community colleges around the country announced today by the U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Department of Education.
The grants support partnerships between community colleges and employers to develop programs that provide pathways to good jobs, including curriculum that meets specific industry needs.
