The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa College of Education was ranked one of the top 100 online education programs by U.S. News & World Report, 2012 edition.
It is the first time the College of Education participated in this category, but officials say the college has consistently ranked in the top 100 for teacher preparation schools in the nation and recently received its highest placement.
Some of the College of Education’s programs include a Second Life (SL) Island where faculty, students, alumni, and staff meet and collaborate in a virtual world.
In May 2011, SL held its first in-world graduation ceremony for its online master’s program graduates, which received national attention.
The college continues to increase its online teaching to meet professional development needs for in-service teachers in the state of Hawai‘i.
Rankings were based on numerical indicator rankings for online master’s of education degree programs, including admissions selectivity, faculty credentials and training, student engagement and accreditation, and student services and technology.
