The Safeway Hawaii Foundation Scholarship Fund has awarded $1,000 scholarships to each of 10 Hawaii students to assist them in pursuing higher education at colleges and universities.
The fund, now in its third year, provides scholarship opportunities to current and past Safeway employees and their descendants.
Students applied through the Hawaii Community Foundation, which administers the fund.
They were required to have maintained a 3.0 grade point average, with preference given to students planning to attend a college or university in Hawaii.
“The Safeway Hawaii Foundation Scholarship Fund allows us to give back to the community in a meaningful way,” said George Glukfeld, Safeway Hawaii district manager. “We’re delighted to be assisting these outstanding students in reaching their goals.”
A total of 71 applications were received for the scholarships. The recipients are as follows:
