The principal and librarian of a Pearl City school are hoping for good weather tonight.

That's because both are spending the night on their schools' roof, making good on a deal made with students.

Children at "Our Lady of Good Counsel" school were challenged to read 9500 books in three months.

They ended up reading more than ten thousand.

So at 9 o'clock this morning, Principal Mrs. Olaso and librarian Mrs. Valencia headed up to the roof.

"They're able to bring up snacks they are able to go use the restroom by climbing down and just going to use the restroom over the railing of the 2nd floor," says Ginger Kamisugi, Our Lady of Good Counsel.

Students were also rewarded with a fun day that included games and a giant slide.

This is a school of under 400 kids, who read over 10,000 books 3 months... They motivate the kids thru action not just lip service... I am sure other schools do things, but this school does things constantly and it is nice to see them recognized. Very proud to be a Mom of two kids who are getting an amazing education not just in the ABC's and 123 but in being a community.

Just left the ending of my girl's Spirit Week and watched Mrs.Olaso and Mrs.Valencia make their descent after 24 hours and it was awesome! It's for the KIDS!!!! I have 2 children at OLGC and I am very happy with what they are doing to inspire our kids... @Angie200 I would hope that you'd do the same no matter the event.. Get Involved and your school and/or community will shine as bright as ours.

@angie 200, if somebody "said something" the other schools would be recognized also. Media is not going to every school and ask them if they were going to do anything special for their students. You snooze, you lose.

That's what you call "motivation" to challenge the students to read. More schools should have administrators challenge their students in order to better themselves. I applaud these 2 ladies.
