My daughter is a Kamehameha Kapalama graduate (border). I'm a little disappointed, because I know there are many qualified Kanaka Maoli out there who would be willing, and quite able to serve. However, I do wish Mr Kim a fond congratulations and welcome to the Kamehameha ohana. Imua Kamehameha.

@Crusader1980, I take offense to your comment stating that Mr. Kim is an "outsider" when in fact, he grew up here in Hawaii on Oahu. He may not be of Hawaiian ancestry, but from what I have seen in the past, the majority of the non-Hawaiian people who were administrators at Kamehameha School were white males. I think Mr. Kim's addition to the Kamehameha School Ohana will be a good one. I think adding the best instructors to Kamehameha Schools is the best way to ensure the best education and opportunities for the keiki's at Kamhameha Schools.

Another irony I've just learned of ..... The firm hired to select the new headmaster for Kamehameha Schools - Kapalama is based in (of all places) New Jersey. Is this coincidental ? There are 49 other states, were 149 other candidates, and, of all places, the committee selects and recommends someone from New Jersey ..... I can't believe this! The Kamehameha Alumni and Hawaiian community should band together and demand that this be lookd at....something just doesn't seem right.

One Hundred fifty applicants, many of whom were, in all likelihood, Hawaiian and the committee responsible for naming a new headmaster was not able to name / find a qualified Hawaiian to run Kamehameha Kapalama. What a disappointment. This speaks volumes for the search committee, and their perception of the educational levels and qualitfy of the people for whom they are responsible for representing and finding a new leader. Nothing new though, with everything else that takes place here in Hawaii, the land of Hawaiian people, we no longer determine our own direction and destiny. A prime example is our mayor, a non- Hawaiian, asking everyone to be "Ambassadors of Aloha". How can this be if things that are being done are not Pono? Outsiders, again, have invaded our lands and are doing as they please, not to benefit the peoples of this land, but to satisfy the needs of a few short-term visitors who may never return and probably don't truly care about Hawaii's people. They are here to represent their own interests. This is just so very sad and disappointing.

Congratulations to Mr. Earl Kim for becoming the new headmaster at the Kamehameha Schools. With his education background, his experience being a principal on the mainland, as well as his upbringing here in Hawaii, he will be a great asset to Kamehameha Schools. Wish him the best of luck when starting his job next year.
