Five high school students win access to APEC

Five Hawaii high school students were given some great news.

They will get to be apart of the APEC summit.

The students are the winners of the APEC Hawaii host committee's high school essay contest.

They were asked to write an essay answering the question "Why is sustainability important to you, Hawaii and APEC?"

The grand prize winners are:

 

·         Alexander Bitter, Waiakea High School, 12th grade (Hawai‘i Island)

·         Ben Chao, ‘Iolani School, 11th grade (O‘ahu)

·         Matthew Matasci, St. Anthony Junior/Senior High, 12th grade (Maui)

·         Shane-Justin Nu’uhiwa, Kamehameha Schools, 11th grade (Kapalama campus – O‘ahu)

·         Zoe Sims, Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy, 11th grade (Hawai‘i Island)

 

The five winners will attend the APEC CEO summit and hear from President Obama, President Hu Jintao of China, and other world leaders.

They also won an Apple iPad.

The judges also selected ten winners who received honorable mentions for their essays. 

These students also got a $100 Apple gift card.
